Project Overview :

MasterWorks is a mobile application designed to promote an Impressionist art museum exhibition. The app combines artwork discovery, artist storytelling, and personalised merchandise purchasing into one smooth mobile experience. The aim was to help visitors understand the exhibition more easily while creating a more memorable and emotionally engaging museum journey.

Visual Direction

The visual style was inspired by Impressionist painting, especially the use of light, atmosphere, soft movement, and vivid colour contrast. A blue and yellow palette was used to represent Monet’s sky, sunlight, and visual warmth. Painterly textures, rounded cards, and expressive typography were applied to create a digital experience that feels artistic, poetic, and accessible.

UX Design & Iteration :

User testing revealed that the original interface was visually attractive but not always clear for first-time users. Some users remembered individual artists but did not immediately understand the exhibition theme, while others found the navigation between artists too linear. In response, I added a “Today’s Recommendation” section, simplified the artist-switching flow, and improved the checkout experience with a more celebratory success page.

From Functional Checkout to Emotional Ending:

The final design presents a complete mobile journey from exhibition discovery to artwork browsing, product customisation, checkout, and purchase confirmation. By combining visual storytelling with familiar mobile interaction patterns, the app supports both learning and purchasing. This project helped me understand how UI design can balance aesthetic expression, usability, and emotional connection.
